Rare earth market update on June 15, 2026
On Monday, China’s rare earth market overall remained stable. Amid intertwined bullish and bearish factors, traders of light and heavy rare earths showed differing sentiment, with product prices fluctuating within a reasonable range, and transactions still having considerable room for growth. In the light rare earth market, overall wait-and-see sentiment was relatively strong. Under a relatively balanced supply-demand relationship, mainstream product prices were weak and stable; among them, praseodymium neodymium oxide and praseodymium neodymium metal were priced at approximately RMB 700,000 per ton and RMB 850,000 per ton respectively. In the medium and heavy rare earth market, driven by increased downstream inquiries, limited imports of Myanmar ores, and rapid development of emerging industries, suppliers generally showed strong reluctance to sell and a firm price-raising sentiment; today, terbium oxide was quoted at RMB 6,350,000 per ton.
News: According to data from the General Administration of Customs, from January to May 2026, China’s rare earth imports totaled 47,628.0 tons, decreased by 2.8% year-on-year, with import value of RMB 70.8 billion yuan, increased by 36.0% year-on-year; rare earth exports totaled 25,378.0 tons, increased by 2.2% year-on-year, with export value of RMB 16.9 billion yuan, increased by 40.0% year-on-year. In May, China’s rare earth imports were 6,770.2 tons, decreased by 22.90% month-on-month, increased by 42.14% year-on-year, import value RMB 8.1 billion yuan, decreased by 35.20% month-on-month, decreased by 48.41% year-on-year; rare earth exports were 5,490.4 tons, increased by 3.42% month-on-month, decreased by 6.38% year-on-year, export value RMB 4.3 billion yuan, decreased by 2.27% month-on-month, increased by 230.77% year-on-year.
