Molybdenum market update on June 12, 2026
This week, domestic molybdenum prices overall showed a trend of first stabilizing and then declining. At the beginning of the week, as the market was digesting the impact of last week’s significant increase in molybdenum prices, product prices fluctuated within a reasonable range and new orders were limited; toward the end of the week, downstream demand showed no signs of recovery, and with limited positive market support, most suppliers strengthened their profit-taking intentions and actively lowered quotations.
According to CTIA GROUP statistics, this week molybdenum concentrate prices decreased by RMB 50/ton-degree, a decrease of 0.97%; ferromolybdenum prices decreased by RMB 6,000/ton, a decrease of 1.85%; molybdenum oxide prices decreased by RMB 80/ton-degree, a decrease of 1.53%; sodium molybdate prices decreased by RMB 3,000/ton, a decrease of 1.34%; ammonium heptamolybdate prices decreased by RMB 2,000/ton, a decrease of 0.63%; molybdenum powder prices showed no significant change.
In terms of news, recently, a research team from the University of Tokyo in Japan used boron nitride (BN) nanotubes as a supporting template and successfully constructed single-walled molybdenum disulfide (MoS?) semiconductor nanotubes with a diameter of only about 1 nanometer. This size is roughly one hundred thousandth of the diameter of a human hair, setting a new global record for the smallest semiconductor material and laying the foundation for exploring the properties of materials at the nanoscale.
