I. China Molybdenum Price Market Analysis for May 2026
According to CTIA GROUP, in May 2026, the price trend of China molybdenum products showed a first rise then fall, with the prices at the end of the month generally higher than those at the beginning of the month. In the first half of the month, after the May Day holiday, downstream enterprises concentrated their replenishment purchases, combined with the strengthening of international molybdenum prices, the high enthusiasm of domestic molybdenum mining enterprises for raising prices and shipping goods, and the fact that Peru issued an emergency order due to energy crisis, causing a reduction in capacity of some local mining enterprises, the market's bullish sentiment continued to heat up. In this context, the prices of molybdenum concentrate, ferromolybdenum, and molybdenum oxide rose significantly, and the prices of downstream products rose synchronously.
In the first half of May 2026, the price of molybdenum concentrate rose by approximately 490 RMB per ton-degree, an increase of 10.29%; the price of ferromolybdenum rose by approximately 35,000 RMB per ton, an increase of 11.67%; the price of molybdenum oxide rose by approximately 490 RMB per ton-degree, an increase of 10.08%; the price of sodium molybdate rose by approximately 24,000 RMB per ton, an increase of 11.43%; the price of ammonium tetra-molybdate rose by approximately 28,000 RMB per ton, an increase of 9.66%; the price of ammonium hepta-molybdate rose by approximately 24,000 RMB per ton, an increase of 8.16%; the price of molybdenum powder rose by approximately 55 RMB per kilogram, an increase of 9.91%; and the price of molybdenum bar rose by approximately 55 RMB per kilogram, an increase of 9.82%.
In the second half of the month, influenced by the significant rise in molybdenum prices in the first half, downstream purchasers had a watchful and high-priced attitude, their willingness to inquire and purchase decreased, combined with the weak operation of the international molybdenum market, further enhancing the suppliers' awareness of realizing profits and closing positions, so the product prices subsequently declined. However, supported by production costs, the downward space for product prices was limited.
II. Average Price of Chinese Molybdenum Products in May 2026
In May 2026, the average prices of most Chinese molybdenum products increased on both a monthly basis and a yearly basis. Among them, the average price of molybdenum concentrate was 5,026 RMB per ton-degree, increasing by 9.81% on a monthly basis and increasing by 40.27% year-on-year; the average price of ferromolybdenum was 318,632 RMB per ton, increasing by 9.10% on a monthly basis and increasing by 36.32% year-on-year; the average price of molybdenum oxide was 5,125 RMB per ton-degree, increasing by 9.58% on a monthly basis and increasing by 39.76% year-on-year; the average price of sodium molybdate was 224,263 RMB per ton, increasing by 9.14% on a monthly basis and increasing by 38.25% year-on-year; the average price of ammonium tetra-molybdate was 306,842 RMB per ton, increasing by 8.06% on a monthly basis and increasing by 38.25% year-on-year; the average price of ammonium hepta-molybdate was 310,000 RMB per ton, increasing by 7.66% on a monthly basis and increasing by 36.60% year-on-year; the average price of molybdenum powder was 590 RMB per kilogram, increasing by 8.46% on a monthly basis and increasing by 38.82% year-on-year; and the average price of molybdenum bar was 595 RMB per kilogram, increasing by 8.38% on a monthly basis and increasing by 29.35% year-on-year.
From January to May 2026, the average prices of most Chinese molybdenum products increased year-on-year. Among them, the average price of molybdenum concentrate was 4,463 RMB per ton-degree, increasing by 27.81% year-on-year; the average price of ferromolybdenum was 285,949 RMB per ton, increasing by 26.06% year-on-year; the average price of molybdenum oxide was 4,557 RMB per ton-degree, increasing by 26.76% year-on-year; the average price of sodium molybdate was 201,459 RMB per ton, increasing by 25.22% year-on-year; the average price of ammonium tetra-molybdate was 276,255 RMB per ton, increasing by 25.43% year-on-year; the average price of ammonium hepta-molybdate was 280,347 RMB per ton, increasing by 25.02% year-on-year; the average price of molybdenum powder was 531 RMB per kilogram, increasing by 27.34% year-on-year; and the average price of molybdenum bar was 534 RMB per kilogram, increasing by 17.88% year-on-year.
