Molybdenum market update on June 2, 2026
The domestic molybdenum market is overall stable and running, with buying and selling parties operating in a general mood amid the mutual intertwining of favorable and unfavorable factors, and product prices fluctuating within a reasonable range, with slow order growth. Today, the prices of molybdenum concentrate, ferromolybdenum and molybdenum powder are approximately 5,030 RMB per ton-degree, 317,000 RMB per ton and 596 RMB per kilogram respectively.
From the perspective of favorable factors, one is that steel enterprises have successively entered the site to bid for ferromolybdenum, and the bidding prices are still acceptable, which to some extent supports suppliers maintaining firm quotations; two is that due to the significant price decline in the second half of May and the high energy prices, the holding parties generally have strong profit awareness, and in order to avoid the risk of cost and profit being out of sync, the willingness of enterprises to lower prices and ship goods is low.
From the perspective of unfavorable factors, one is that in the context of the recent market remaining stagnant, some downstream users have a higher degree of caution in consumption, thereby affecting the speed of spot circulation in the market; two is that the international molybdenum market is lukewarm, making it difficult to drive the domestic molybdenum market. Recently, the international molybdenum oxide price is approximately 31.00 USD per pound of molybdenum, and the European ferromolybdenum price is approximately 71.50 USD per kilogram of molybdenum.
In terms of news, from January to April 2026, infrastructure construction investment increased by 4.3% year-on-year. Among them, investment in water transportation increased by 28.4% year-on-year. Investment in water management decreased by 6.2% year-on-year, investment in public facility management increased by 0.9% year-on-year, investment in road transportation decreased by 3.0% year-on-year, investment in ecological protection and environmental governance increased by 5.9% year-on-year, investment in electric power, heat power production and supply increased by 5.0% year-on-year. Investment in air transportation increased by 27.3% year-on-year.
