Rare earth market update on May 27, 2026
The domestic rare earth prices generally showed a mixed pattern, with praseodymium-neodymium prices showing signs of rebounding after stabilizing, while dysprosium and terbium prices continued to fluctuate downward. Today, the prices of praseodymium-neodymium oxide and praseodymium oxide both increased by about RMB 5,000/ton, while the prices of terbium oxide and dysprosium oxide both decreased by about RMB 20,000/ton.
According to CTIA GROUP, downstream demand in the rare earth market remains generally weak. On the one hand, the industry has entered the traditional off-season for demand, with production schedules in application sectors such as new energy vehicles and wind power slowing down, and insufficient growth in terminal orders. Midstream magnetic material enterprises are facing profit pressure and generally maintain low inventory operation strategies, purchasing only based on rigid demand, resulting in reduced market inquiry activity. On the other hand, China's exports of rare earth products are being restricted, further suppressing market demand. Faced with sluggish transactions, upstream suppliers are under increasing pressure in inventory turnover. Coupled with the spread of bearish market sentiment, some holders have chosen to sell at discounted prices in order to facilitate transactions and recover funds. However, supported by production costs, suppliers have limited room for price concessions.
In terms of news, data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed that from January to April 2026, industrial enterprises above designated size nationwide achieved a total profit of RMB 24,358.4 billion, increased by 18.2% year-on-year. Among them, the mining industry achieved a total profit of RMB 3,618.4 billion, increased by 26.0%; the manufacturing industry achieved a total profit of RMB 18,019.9 billion, increased by 20.4%; and the production and supply industries of electricity, heat, gas, and water achieved a total profit of RMB 2,720.1 billion, decreased by 1.9%.
