Molybdenum market update on May 26, 2026
The domestic molybdenum prices generally continued their downward trend, with the decline further expanding. Among them, molybdenum concentrate prices decreased by about RMB 100/ton-degree, ferromolybdenum prices decreased by about RMB 6,000/ton, ammonium heptamolybdate prices decreased by about RMB 2,000/ton, and molybdenum powder prices decreased by about RMB 5/kg.
According to CTIA GROUP, weakening procurement willingness from steel enterprises, lower steel tender prices, and the weak international molybdenum market collectively led to cooling sentiment in the domestic molybdenum market, with fewer transactions concluded. Against this backdrop, most suppliers chose to lower prices to promote orders. However, supported by relatively strong production costs, difficulty in increasing spot market supply, and the favorable development trend of downstream molybdenum industries, some suppliers showed strong reluctance to sell and intentions to hold prices firm.
In terms of news, data from the World Steel Association showed that in April 2026, crude steel output from the 69 countries and regions included in the World Steel Association statistics totaled 153.4 million tons, decreased by 1.9% year-on-year. Among them, crude steel output in Africa was 2.1 million tons, increased by 11.5% year-on-year; crude steel output in Asia and Oceania was 114.2 million tons, decreased by 1.3% year-on-year; crude steel output in the European Union (27 countries) was 11.0 million tons, decreased by 1.8% year-on-year; crude steel output in other European countries was 3.6 million tons, increased by 4.2% year-on-year; crude steel output in the Middle East was 3.7 million tons, decreased by 27.6% year-on-year; crude steel output in North America was 9.4 million tons, increased by 6.9% year-on-year; crude steel output in Russia and other CIS countries plus Ukraine was 6.0 million tons, decreased by 13.4% year-on-year; crude steel output in South America was 3.4 million tons, increased by 3.1% year-on-year.
