Rare earth market update on May 15, 2026
This week, the domestic rare earth market generally maintained a weak trend, with prices of most mainstream products slightly decreasing and order growth slow. The reasons are, on one hand, that downstream manufacturing enterprises face relatively high capital turnover pressure and have limited purchasing strength; on the other hand, the market sentiment of "buying when prices rise but not when prices fall" is obvious, and market participants are relatively cautious about future trends, resulting in reduced market demand and weak price stabilization by suppliers.
However, from a long-term perspective, the rare earth market is expected to rebound, mainly due to the promising development prospects of emerging industries, which may increase the usage of rare earth functional materials. In the first quarter of 2026, the application of new technologies such as artificial intelligence in the electronics and consumer goods industries accelerated; terminal products such as drones and AI glasses became increasingly abundant, and the output of industrial robots and integrated circuits increased by 33.2% and 24.3% year-on-year, respectively.
According to statistics from CTIA GROUP, this week the price of praseodymium-neodymium oxide decreased by RMB 10,000/ton, a decrease of 1.32%; praseodymium-neodymium metal decreased by RMB 15,000/ton, a decrease of 1.61%; terbium oxide showed no significant fluctuation; dysprosium oxide decreased by RMB 10,000/ton, a decrease of 0.74%; 55N NdFeB blanks decreased by RMB 4/kg, a decrease of 1.29%; NdFeB scrap (Pr-Nd) showed no significant fluctuation.
According to the official website of the Jiangxi Provincial Development and Reform Commission, in March 2026, the average sales prices in Ganzhou for high-yttrium oxides (rare earth) and medium-yttrium europium compounds (rare earth) were RMB 193,000/ton and RMB 208,000/ton, increased by 10.92% and remained flat month-on-month, and decreased by 5.85% and increased by 11.83% year-on-year, respectively; the average sales price of Scheelite Concentrate in Ganzhou was RMB 950,000/ton, increased by 39.71% month-on-month and increased by 578.57% year-on-year.
