Molybdenum market update on May 6, 2026
The domestic molybdenum market generally maintained a high and stable level. On the first day after the May Day holiday, upstream and downstream enterprises have not yet resumed normal trading rhythm, resulting in no significant fluctuations in product prices. Market activity was relatively low, and transactions were limited. However, during the May Day period, international molybdenum prices steadily increased, which helped to warm up the domestic molybdenum market. Today, the prices of molybdenum concentrate, ferromolybdenum, and ammonium heptamolybdate are approximately RMB 4,760/ton-degree, RMB 300,000/ton, and RMB 294,000/ton, respectively.
According to news, data from the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) shows that from January to March 2026, China’s cumulative steel exports totaled 24.717 million tons, decreased by 9.9% year-on-year, with an average export price of 698.4 USD/ton, decreased by 1.0% year-on-year; cumulative steel imports totaled 1.339 million tons, decreased by 16.3% year-on-year, with an average import price of 1,746.7 USD/ton, increased by 5.4% year-on-year. Among them, in March, China exported 9.135 million tons of steel, increased by 16.6% month-on-month; imported 0.512 million tons of steel, increased by 38.9% month-on-month.
