Molybdenum market update on April 24, 2026
This week, the domestic molybdenum market has shown a fluctuating upward trend, mainly driven by factors such as continuous price increases from molybdenum mining companies, stable downstream demand, and the recovery of the international molybdenum market. On April 23, a mine in Luoyang sold 810 tons of 45%-55% molybdenum concentrate, with transaction prices ranging from RMB 4,705/ton-degree to RMB 4,750/ton-degree. Driven by the rise in molybdenum concentrate prices, the prices of other molybdenum products have also increased.
According to CTIA Group's statistics, this week, the price of molybdenum concentrate has increased by about RMB 200/ton-degree, up 4.65%; the price of molybdenum iron has increased by about RMB 9,000/ton, up 3.10%; the price of sodium molybdate has increased by about RMB 7,000/ton, up 3.45%; the price of ammonium heptamolybdate has increased by about RMB 9,000/ton, up 3.16%; the price of molybdenum powder has increased by about RMB 15/kg, up 2.78%; and the price of molybdenum oxide has increased by about RMB 200/ton-degree, up 4.55%.
In terms of news, according to data from the China Steel Association, in mid-April 2025, the social inventory of the five major steel products in 21 cities was 10.6 million tons, a decrease of 220,000 tons from the previous month, down 2.0%, with the inventory reduction narrowing. Compared to the beginning of the year, it increased by 3.39 million tons, up 47.0%; compared to the same period last year, it increased by 1.32 million tons, up 14.2%. By region, the social inventory of steel in the seven major regions mostly showed a downward trend, with East China showing the largest reduction, North China showing the largest decrease rate, and Northwest China showing the largest increase in both volume and rate.
