Rare earth market update on April 24, 2026
This week, the domestic light and heavy rare earth markets have shown significantly different performances. Among them, the price of praseodymium-neodymium has been highly volatile, while the prices of dysprosium and terbium have remained largely unchanged. In the light rare earth market, praseodymium-neodymium prices first rose and then fell: at the beginning of the week, the positive market sentiment from last week continued, with traders showing strong speculative buying enthusiasm. However, as the week neared its end, the demand from magnetic material enterprises failed to follow through and the support for favorable factors weakened, leading to an increase in profit-taking among suppliers, which caused praseodymium-neodymium prices to decline. In the medium and heavy rare earth markets, the trading atmosphere has been relatively calm. Due to the lack of significant improvement in end-user demand and the firm quotation stance of inventory holders, product prices have been fluctuating within a reasonable range.
According to CTIA Group’s statistics, this week, the price of praseodymium-neodymium oxide has increased by about RMB 32,000/ton, up 4.11%; the price of praseodymium-neodymium metal has increased by about RMB 25,000/ton, up 2.65%; the price of terbium oxide has increased by about RMB 20,000/ton, up 0.33%; the price of dysprosium oxide has shown no significant change; the price of 55N neodymium iron boron billets has increased by about RMB 10/kg, up 3.24%; and the price of neodymium iron boron scrap (praseodymium-neodymium) has increased by about RMB 10/kg, up 1.30%.
In terms of news, in the first quarter, energy supply showed steady growth. Among industrial energy production above designated size, the production of raw coal, crude oil, natural gas, and electricity all reached historical highs for the same period. In the first quarter, the industrial production of raw coal was 1.2 billion tons, increasing by 0.1% year-on-year; the industrial production of crude oil was 54.8 million tons, increasing by 1.3% year-on-year; the industrial power generation was 2.4 trillion kWh, increasing by 3.4% year-on-year.
