Rare earth market update on April 20, 2026
On Monday, the price trends of mainstream light and heavy rare earth products in China showed a clear divergence: the price of praseodymium-neodymium increased significantly, while the prices of dysprosium and terbium saw little change. In the light rare earth market, the price hike in the second-quarter concentrate transaction prices by Baotou Steel Group and Northern Rare Earth significantly boosted market sentiment, with holders showing a general trend of being reluctant to sell and expecting price increases. In addition, the demand from magnet material enterprises has increased, and the spot market supply remains tight, further expanding the price increase of mainstream products. Today, the prices of praseodymium-neodymium oxide and praseodymium-neodymium metal have increased by approximately RMB 20,000/ton and RMB 30,000/ton, respectively.
In the middle and heavy rare earth market, under conditions where suppliers have limited room for price reductions and buyers remain cautious, product prices have remained stable with fewer transactions. In this market situation, industry players expect that the market may continue to remain in a weak and stalemated condition.
