Rare earth market update on March 6, 2026
This week, the domestic rare earth market showed a trend of first stability, followed by a decline, and then stabilization again. At the beginning of the week, the prices of mainstream products continued the strong trend from the weekend of the previous week. Mid-week, due to the weakening of the previous favorable support, less downstream demand, and the fact that prices were at relatively high levels, many suppliers adjusted their quotes rationally downward. Towards the end of the week, affected by the price decline in the middle of the week and the overall positive trend in the strategic metal market, the prices of most products stabilized, with individual products seeing slight decreases.
According to statistics from CTIA GROUP LTD, the price of praseodymium neodymium oxide decreased by RMB 43,000 per ton, a decrease of 4.82%; the price of praseodymium neodymium metal decreased by RMB 50,000 per ton, a decrease of 4.55%; the price of terbium oxide decreased by RMB 100,000 per ton, a decrease of 1.53%; the price of dysprosium oxide decreased by RMB 100,000 per ton, a decrease of 6.13%; the price of 55N neodymium iron boron billets decreased by RMB 1 per kilogram, a decrease of 0.32%; the price of neodymium iron boron waste (praseodymium neodymium) decreased by RMB 25 per kilogram, a decrease of 3.01%.
According to news from Baotou Steel News Center, the Xianhuaite-(La), a new mineral discovered by the Mineral Research Institute, has been officially approved as a new mineral by the International Mineralogical Association (IMA) New Minerals Nomenclature and Classification Committee, with the international number IMA2025-087. This is the 29th new mineral discovered in the Baiyun Obo deposit. Xianhuaite-(La) is a rare rare earth niobate mineral, ideally with the chemical formula K2LaNb5O15, with theoretical Nb2O5 content of 72.10%, La2O3 content of 17.68%, and K2O content of 10.22%.
