WO3 nanopowder may be prepared by a room temperature liquid phase method and used as a photocatalyst, which can play a role of catalysis under photon excitation, and does not participate in the reaction itself.

Room Temperature Liquid Phase Method to Produce Interstitial C-doped Orthorhombic Phase Hydrated Tungsten Trioxide Photocatalyst

Room temperature liquid phase method was applied to prepare the interstitial C-doped orthorhombic phase hydrated tungsten trioxide (C-doped WO3?0.33H2O) photocatalyst. As studies show:WO3 nanopowder picture
1. The doping position of C is the gap position of hydrated tungsten trioxide.

2. SAED and HRTEM tests show that the introduction of dopant (C) causes defects and distortions in the crystal lattice of the synthesized tungsten trioxide, thereby increasing the local dipole moment of sample.

3. The optical property test and theoretical calculation results show that the introduction of C narrows the band gap of sample, increases the absorption of visible light and generates new energy levels at the top of valence band.

4. The results of PL spectrum test show that the recombination probability of photon-generated carrier of samples after C doping is decreased. Although the photocatalytic performance of the synthesized sample decreased with the addition of C, it is higher than that of the undoped one.
